The Museum hosts a number of special events and exhibits throughout the year. Our upcoming schedule includes:

Participate in the longest running canoe race in Ontario. The traditional canoe race down the Nonquon River and into Lake Scugog will be held on Saturday, June 2. Registration takes place Friday, June 1 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm and Saturday, June 2 from 7:00 - 9:00 am. The first boats can enter the river on Saturday at 7:00 am. Novice and professional canoeists of all ages may enter recreational and competitive categories. Registration is $45 per canoe or kayak.

Dog Days celebrates the unique bond that exists between dogs and their people. It has grown to be the largest Dog Day in Durham Region. Highlights include the popular doggie talent contest, free for all dogs to enter, Agility demonstrations, Canadian Association of Rally Obedience, fashion shows, contests and more. Visit with local breeders to discover what breed would be the best fit for your family, explore unique gift ideas for your pooch from one of the many vendors or just have fun introducing your dog to some new friends. Admission to the all-day event is $7 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, $2 for children 5-12, free for children under 5 and all dogs. 2-Day Passes are also available.

Pioneer Day Step back in time to the 19th century as you stroll through the Museum Village. Meet the blacksmith and the woodwright, try out the printing press and write on a school slate. Heritage demonstrations, exhibits, children's games, crafts and more.

Driftwood Theatre Driftwood Theatre is a company dedicated to sharing classic stories. They take as inspiration not only the works of William Shakespeare but also the many playwrights both past and present whose work shares the same classic quality. Driftwood is pleased to present at the Scugog Shores Museum Village as part of their 2012 'pay-what-you-can-admission' summer tour. This outdoor venue is completely accessible to all members of the public. Everyone who wants to be entertained, provoked, inspired or moved by theatre should be afforded the opportunity to do so.

Murder Mystery Evening This popular yearly event pits all participants against a dasterdly murderer to see who can solve the crime. All assistant detectives will have the opportunity to conduct interviews and search for clues. Prizes, donated by local merchants, will be awarded to the detectives who catch the culprit. Tickets are $17 and must be purchased in advance. Tickets sell out every year so get yours early to avoid disappointment.

Children's Old-Fashioned Christmas Step back in time and tour through the historic village, traditionally decorated for the holidays with evergreen boughs, bright ribbons and berries. Children will be engaged in activities throughout the village:
- Visit with Santa Claus
- String popcorn and cranberries in the Lee House
- Bake and decorate cookies in the Log Cabin
- Create unique ornaments to hang on your tree
- Decorate traditional Victorian Christmas Cards
- Visit with the blacksmith
- Explore the Museum Village on a Holiday Scavenger Hunt

Hot chocolate, cider and Christmas cookies will be served in the schoolhouse throughout the day. Admission: Adults $4, Students and Seniors $3, Children 5-12 $2, Children under 5 are free. We are accepting imperishable food donations for Operation Scugog.
